Q&A with Hollywood Curves’ Tailor James
Hollywood Curves Executive Vice President Tailor James is all too familiar with issues of fashion faux pas. As a former Playboy Playmate and International Model, James benefited from identifying solutions commonly used by stylists and designers to fix common wardrobe malfunctions. With her expertise and sensual fashion sense, James teamed with a respected product development team and manufacturer to produce Hollywood Curves, which currently consists of 26 items. Tailor James details her journey to company vice president and the wide range of roles she plays in building Hollywood Curves.
How did your experience as a Playboy Playmate and lingerie model play a role in designing Hollywood Curves?
Modelling for many years, I have had the benefit of working closely with top industry professionals, and have been privy to some of their creative approaches that contribute in creating that “perfect look”. Through countless photo shoots, I realized these choices are just as valuable in a woman’s everyday life as they are to creating that glamorous red carpet look. All women can relate to having that perfect outfit that they wanted to wear, but something just didn’t quite fall into place when they put it on. It’s imperative that every woman have that opportunity to look and feel comfortable and confident no matter what they’re wearing. Having had worn so many different styles and varieties of lingerie over the course of my career, more so than most women do in a lifetime, I have become quite knowledgeable and conscious with my experience of what makes lingerie and figure-enhancing products work and what doesn’t. As an alternative to costly and invasive surgery, Hollywood Curves enables women to look their best throughout all phases of their lives. Let’s face it, our bodies may change but our sex appeal shouldn’t have to.
What role did you play in the creation of Hollywood Curves?
I began researching where to find these figure enhancing products, but was usually led on a wild goose chase. I wasn’t satisfied with what was available on the market, if available at all. The market for these products is most definitely underserved. When looking for shape wear, a popular Hollywood must-have, I found it disappointing how they looked as a stand-alone item. Why does shape wear need to resemble something our of your grandma’s panty drawer? Not something you would want to reveal at the end of a hot date! There are a lot of products out there that are not practical and I needed to create a practical, useful product that actually works. Deciding to take matters into my own hands, I teamed up with business associates that I have made over the course of my career, and created Hollywood Curves. Hollywood Curves is a brand that provides functional, quality figure-enhancing solutions and products that eliminate those annoying, far too common wardrobe malfunctions.
How involved are you in the brand’s day to day operations and/or marketing?
When we put the idea together, we created the Hollywood Curves assortment and perfected the products with our key factories. Currently we are working on adding sexy lingerie with all the benefits of shape wear, to the assortment. From day one, I have been completely hands on from development, market research, fit, copy writing, packaging, design, photos-shoot styling, ad concepts, sample shopping to travelling worldwide for trade shows and presentations for all of our international distributors. Being a model, I understand the marketing aspect and have been able to promote all of which I have learned in the past.
What inspired you to take an executive role in the company?
I had a great idea, I found an exceptional company with over 25 years of experience in lingerie manufacturing, and together both having a vested interest we are able to create a strong viable company in this under saturated marketplace. I want Hollywood Curves to inspire women to feel confident and comfortable in their own skin without going under the knife. Beauty comes in all ages, shapes and sizes.
What are your expectations for the success of this brand?
Hollywood Curves offers a quality product that every woman can use to make them look and feel better at a reasonable price along with offering the newest greatest styles. We know that if we ship a quality product and customers are looking for it, it will sell. As we steadily roll through Spring into Summer, everyone’s mood brightens and thoughts of road trips to the beach sprout in all of our hearts. This carefree feeling is unfused into Made by Niki’s new SS14 collection. Designer Niki McMorrough sits down with us for this exclusive Q&A giving us insights into her new collection along with a generous sampling of images and inspirations direct from Niki:
Q&A with Niki McMorrough Niki, could you give us a brief overview of SS14 Almost Famous? Have you ever seen the Almost Famous Movie, with Kate Hudson? It captures a brilliant golden moment in 1970’s bohemian west coast rock n roll, when a mega rock band meets an innocent, sexy, chaotic, inspiring, heart-warming entourage and they go on the road trip of a lifetime. Made by Niki’s SS14 ‘Almost Famous’ collection was inspired by that summery road tour, festival feeling.
What are some of the key looks from the collection?
There are 37 pieces in the collection. Expect lots of fringes, sheer silks and flowers crafted into bras, knickers, kaftans, garlands and body pieces which make your boobs look bigger, your waist smaller and bottom more pinchable.
What are some familiar Made by Niki styles your customers will recognize?
Made by Niki fans will recognize the best-selling String bodysuits, this time in the season’s muted shades of coral and plain jet black which have been prevalent at Fendi, Stella McCartney and Elie Saab, among others.

There are some beautiful and fashionable accessories like the fur collar and flower garland. Could you talk about the inspirations behind those pieces? How do your retail and consumer customers react to these items?
Our customers love the flower fashion accessories – they can be worn as ready-to-wear accessories or as sexy body-garland bedroom pieces, and are made from millions of laser cut chiffon flower petals which were inspired by a hippie festival vibe. They are totally adjustable, so that one size fits everybody. How could you not fall in love with that?
And of course, you can’t have a festival fashion collection without a fur shearling collar that can be layered over anything (or nothing). This piece adds a rugged, luxurious ‘touch me’ texture to any outfit. It’s the perfect ‘Made by Niki’ piece, as it exudes a cheeky innocent sexiness, and keeps you warm when you’re out causing havoc in the middle of the night. Even our ‘bra’ stockists have invested quite heavily in the fur fashion pieces, as they are so easy to style with everything, and who doesn’t love the idea of soft shearling against sexy, bare skin? I think this piece has been a favourite ‘gift’ purchase, especially with men who are confused about bra sizes.

Freya Swim AW14 Vibrant colours for Winter sun
If you fancy a bit of Winter sun later in the year then make sure you pack a decent bikini and Freya Swim have added a couple of lovely new styles to their AW14 collection and we’ve had a look.
Samara is striking with its black base that holds a gorgeous fruity pattern of pomegranate, lime and saffron. Its bright and bold and will get you noticed on the beach. The bikini top will give you some great lift and a sexy shape and will fit from 28 – 38 and D – GG. This range also comes in a halter style and sexy panties come with or without ties.
Penza is also bold and bright but in a slight more subtle way. You’ll find burnt orange, candy pink, mint green, gold and cobalt blue all mixed together in a pattern that looks like brush strokes. This style will fit the same sizes as Samara but comes as a plunge style and hipster brief.

Peaches is white hot at lingerie fashion show
Peaches Geldof was a vision in all white as she attended a revealing lingerie showcase in Paris.
The mother-of-two showed off her slender physique in a two-piece, high-neck crop top and pencil skirt ensemble as she took her front row seat at the presentation for underwear brand Etam.
She teamed the outfit with black pointed heels and mauve lipstick, wearing her shoulder-length hair in loose curls.The Etam show always promises to be a big spectacle, with artists such as Lily Allen and Rihanna performing on the catwalk at previous shows.This year, for the label's seventh presentation, Azealia Banks and Eve entertained guests as an army of models showcased a series of raunchy sexy lingerie outfits.
Peaches recently gave a glimpse into her world of motherhood through a series of messages posted on Twitter.The mum-of-two revealed that her youngest song Phaedra was sick with a bad cold. "Phaedra fell asleep for one hour earlier at 7 and has been up since then!! I am going insane here!"
The tweet continued, "We are in the dark on the bed with him crawling round all over my face breathing on me with his blocked nose and throat breath! This is what it sounds like...lol."Bob Geldof's daughter posted an audio of her eight-month-old son’s breathing, complete with blocked nose.Peaches, who clearly didn't like seeing her little one feeling unwell , wrote in another tweet, "Look at this tired face crawling round In the darkness. He wants to sleep but can't because of his cold. Sad!"
