Made by Niki’s “Almost Famous” SS14 Collection

As we steadily roll through Spring into Summer, everyone’s mood brightens and thoughts of road trips to the beach sprout in all of our hearts. This carefree feeling is unfused into Made by Niki’s new SS14 collection. Designer Niki McMorrough sits down with us for this exclusive Q&A giving us insights into her new collection along with a generous sampling of images and inspirations direct from Niki:

Q&A with Niki McMorrough Niki, could you give us a brief overview of SS14 Almost Famous? Have you ever seen the Almost Famous Movie, with Kate Hudson? It captures a brilliant golden moment in 1970’s bohemian west coast rock n roll, when a mega rock band meets an innocent, sexy, chaotic, inspiring, heart-warming entourage and they go on the road trip of a lifetime. Made by Niki’s SS14 ‘Almost Famous’ collection was inspired by that summery road tour, festival feeling.

What are some of the key looks from the collection?

There are 37 pieces in the collection. Expect lots of fringes, sheer silks and flowers crafted into bras, knickers, kaftans, garlands and body pieces which make your boobs look bigger, your waist smaller and bottom more pinchable.

What are some familiar Made by Niki styles your customers will recognize?

Made by Niki fans will recognize the best-selling String bodysuits, this time in the season’s muted shades of coral and plain jet black which have been prevalent at Fendi, Stella McCartney and Elie Saab, among others.

What are some new styles debuting with this collection?

Totally new looks for the season include the sheer silk circle kaftan which makes a fantastically wearable festival-fashion piece. It has a matching bra and french knicker set which gives the illusion of a fuller bust and fun, flouncy hips.

The shoelace bra definitely adds ‘oomph’ to your boobs with it’s bootlace embellishment all over the cups. These volumising styles are fab for women who would like a little amplification in the chest department, but there’s also a smooth cup version for those who don’t need the extra ‘help’!

There are some beautiful and fashionable accessories like the fur collar and flower garland. Could you talk about the inspirations behind those pieces? How do your retail and consumer customers react to these items?

Our customers love the flower fashion accessories – they can be worn as ready-to-wear accessories or as sexy body-garland bedroom pieces, and are made from millions of laser cut chiffon flower petals which were inspired by a hippie festival vibe. They are totally adjustable, so that one size fits everybody. How could you not fall in love with that?

And of course, you can’t have a festival fashion collection without a fur shearling collar that can be layered over anything (or nothing). This piece adds a rugged, luxurious ‘touch me’ texture to any outfit. It’s the perfect ‘Made by Niki’ piece, as it exudes a cheeky innocent sexiness, and keeps you warm when you’re out causing havoc in the middle of the night. Even our ‘bra’ stockists have invested quite heavily in the fur fashion pieces, as they are so easy to style with everything, and who doesn’t love the idea of soft shearling against sexy, bare skin? I think this piece has been a favourite ‘gift’ purchase, especially with men who are confused about bra sizes.
