Lingerie Relique SS14

The design duo at Relique takes inspiration for their SS14 collection from the Badlands — both the national park in South Dakota and the 1973 Terrence Malick film. “In the movie Sissy Spacek plays this unformed, lost youth character named Holly who is deeply in love with Martin Sheen’s fiercely psychotic character, Kit. We took the juxtaposition between these two characters to create our mood and designed pieces that are feminine almost innocent and also kept our older styles that are much more graphic and bold,” explained co-founder and creative director, Chelsea Carson.

This dichotomy of emotion carries over into the brand’s lookbook as well. “You can also see this in the way the look book was done in that for half of the photos our model looks like an innocent, untouched statue. In the other half she has a firm determined stance with slash like grass blades,” added Kait Vasquez, Relique’s co-founder and Director of Operations.

Carson noted that the brand’s previous silhouettes are present including four new styles. Three of the new styles are Relique’s new basics: the Pavo bralette, Hydra HW Brief, and the Vela bodysuit. The brand’s fourth new style is a garter belt that plays well with both the basics and classic styles from the past season and is more fashion forward and bold. It was developed by Relique to “…reach a new customer looking for comfortable everyday sexy lingerie that still has good design and is truly unique.”

The colors in this season’s collection from the earthy buttes, to pink sunsets were all inspired by the tall grasses found in the plains. The natural spectrum found in the Badlands — Mauve, Sand, Beige, White, Moss, Hunter, and Lime — also make their way into SS14.
